Reloading Days: Claude Render

It’s funny.  While Monet is well defined as a character, we don’t have as easy a time with Claude.  Maybe it’s because we intentionally designed him to be as cryptic and nebulous as possible.  That’s not to say that he’s a throw-together character; on the contrary, we have a backstory with him that’s just as long and complex as Monet’s (arguably more detailed than hers, even.)  But he’s a sniper and hacker, designed to blend in and not be noticed.  He’s not the guy you’re looking for when someone’s shot; he’s likely the guy you’re thanking for pointing out that “he went that way.”  He’s born in Los Angeles (if he lived in modern times, he’d be an American of Mexican and French ancestry), but knows enough languages down to the accents, slang and shibboleths that he can’t be pinned easily while on mission.  Then, there’s the whole business with Miki….

Even up until the first drawings of him, Ayne always had a hard time wrapping her mind around him.  While I have an easier time picturing him via prose, he doesn’t always come out as well for my renders.  Maybe that’s just the way it’s supposed to be.  But maybe that’s just the thing about well-crafted characters.
